A Mid-Week Mini Blog

Don't all get excited, this won't be one of our long and rant-filled blogs. It's a little update as things have been going a bit awry and we forgot to let you know about a new service we offer. On a plus note, the van-free deliveries are going well. Boo likes to come along for navigational support, as you can see from the cover photo. Right. Let's get to it.

August Bicycle Townie Woes

Well, it's all been a bit of a shitter. We were hoping to have our prototype bike ready to photograph and show you by now but we've hit some unforeseen stumbling blocks. First off, the powdercoat.

It's always a bit of a nerve-wracking endeavour to remove the bubble wrap after finish but in this case, it was a big old disappointment. Inconsistent coverage, dents that weren't there when we supplied the frame, big red streaks (the frame is white so...erm...pretty noticeable!). All in all, a real letdown. BUT, let's see the positive. We WON'T be sending your Townies to the same finisher and are in the process of sourcing someone better. Our mishap is your gain for a superior finish, so that's the silver lining.

Next, supplier problems. Would you believe us if we told you we ordered a chain and got an empty, fully sealed jiffy bag? What if we told you it happened twice before we finally got the chain, today? Yup. Fun. We are still waiting on a few other finishing bits as well, so we can't take any nice pictures or really go for the final pre-order push before they arrive. There has been swearing.

We've had a few people ask if we can do different geometry for the Townie, as they have a certain wheel size they are hoping to use, to manage a parts-bin build-up. We love that you're being thrifty but the bike is as it is, with custom sizing. We are happy to offer a midway compromise however, by discounting our wheel labour if you want to send us hubs you have to be built into cost-effective rims that will fit. How's that?

A huge thank you to everyone that has placed an order already. We are looking so forward to building these bikes for you.

Chain Waxing In Norfolk

We have jumped on the chain waxing trend! After experimenting with our own we are happy that we have the chain waxing process down and are now inviting you to send us your chain for a deep clean and fresh waxing service. Yes, you can apparently save a few watts with a waxed chain. No, we can't say we've noticed our output improving significantly, though everything feels good and smooth and it's great to know our chains are sparkling clean and running well. We are happy to supply a new chain, freshly waxed directly to you as well. The cost will be £25 plus return shipping for a supplied chain. Costs will vary if you'd like us to supply you with a brand spanker.

Ramping Up The Norwich Bicycle Repairs

Something we've been doing a lot of recently are fun little mods and repairs so your existing bikes can do a little more, last longer and stay out of the scrap metal pile. It's great that word is seemingly getting out that we are happy to take on these projects and that we aim to turn them around quickly (toddler bedtime is our most productive time of day) and for less than you are normally expecting. It shouldn't cost the earth to help save the planet by reusing, repairing and repurposing. We are always happy for you to send your frame to us as well, so don't worry if you're not local...we can still help.

That's it for now, but we will do a proper blog soon. In the meantime, here's five of the best from Mrs A's various emails and phone calls with inept supply chain people and lovely customers getting in touch to say hello and engage in some banter this week:

  • "a symphony of fucktardedness"

  • "couldn't organise a fuck in a brothel"

  • "copycat cuntflap"

  • "jargon-spouting cock-knocker"

  • "shit off fucknuts"

Yes, it's been a week.
